Curriculum Topic: Individual Activity, Virtual Friendly
Activity Type: Multi-topic, Postpartum, Pregnancy
Supplies: Paper and pencils
Instructions:
On a full sheet of paper, have each student draw three concentric circles with a horizontal line through the center. In the top half of the center circle, ask them to write the names of friends, family, or professionals who are nearby that they will call on for emotional support if extremely stressed. The names in the next outer circle will be friends, family, or professionals they will contact if they need to chat, but who might not be able to see them personally, unless an emergency. The outer-most top circle should contain other means of support on a more distant level to whom they could vent minor emotional stresses or read about similar situations such as chat groups, Facebook, blogs, medical resources.
On the bottom half of the circle it would be the same categories, except for physical concerns:
– Innermost circle: Nearby help for serious concerns or pain.
– Next outer circle: May live in a distant place, but would be helpful to share knowledge.
– Outermost circle: Q&A to non-personal sources.
Talking Points:
What options are available in the community, and what choices have others made for support through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum?
